Oh.. well.. but I'm sure that the gas prices in your friend's uncle's area can't be as dear as the prices here.

Don't you all wish you were in Australia where petrol (aka gas for you Americans
) Is only $1.65 and hasn't been passed $1.86
somehow that seems cheap but is meant to be really expensive >.>

i was wondering are we heading into a depression?
i've heared a mix of things but i would like to know what you think.![]()
Sasami-kun im with you whn you say i wish this would all end and we capture all the terrorist...but im afraid its as Athos said its impossible. i guess all one can do is hope...
It isn't impossible. The public just needs to become educated, and needs to exert their force of power over Washington. Personally, the public needs to direct the government back towards the principles of the Constitution, where it was Congress who made the policies, and then the President just carries them out, and acts independently as needed. One elected man does not represent the American people (as we should have learned now from Mr. Bush). Not to mention, if we were back towards a more Constitutional government, we wouldn't be having all the problems we are having now, and then it wouldn't matter who is President because the parties would be working towards the same ends just with different means...Never, never underestimate the power of the American people.
Now, as to your question, if the current U.S. economy is heading into a depression. My answer is no, it isn't. Generally, the characteristics of a depression is when the unemployment rate hits 18%. (Last time I checked, it was around like 6%). Also, the U.S. government doesn't officially declare when the US economy goes into a recession or depression. That responsibility lies within the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). It's a group of about 20 economists who monitor the US economy (basically, space: NASA as economy: NBER). They get all sorts of technical. The U.S. economy will bounce up again (it always has) it is just a matter of when. As Alan Greenspan has noted in his memoir The Age of Turbulence the US economy is incredibly resilient. For us young people, I actually think of this as pretty good opportunity. Since the stock markets are down, that lowers the price of stocks across the board. This makes stocks much cheaper. Then you buy the stock/bonds, and hang on to them for years and when the market goes up, you sell them at a higher price than what you bought them for. Of course, this won't happen for all stocks. Investing in real estate also would be good. Investing in anything would be of great benefit for the future.

18 (because then you can legally enter into a contract). There are special accounts however that a parent or grandparent can set up for minors to invest. I forget what they are called, but I'll look into it.

I'm not 100% sure but I think I have one of those, though I never really pay much attention to it.
Really, what I'm most worried about it the environment. At the rate we're going and if things stay the way they are, in a few 100 years it will almost impossible for anything to live.
Are you kidding?! Thats how much we were paying like 2 weeks ago I think, then it went down. Hopefully yours will go down too.KiraX wrote:im paying about $2.99!!!Black Cat wrote:The price got lowered to about $2.00 about a week ago, why? How much are you paying?

Yea, but after years of having things the way they are its gonna be hard for everyone to just up and change to more eco-friendly things. Who knows how long it could take.

If circumstances warrant, it could be only a day or two.

If you mandate it, you'll be surprised. Kinda like when FDR closed all the banks to figure things out.

True, but theres also the problem of finding efficient power sources. It takes time to discover those kinds of things.
