Oh man, am I going to blow your mind, what with being the first respondent to this thread.
Yes, I am a big wrestling fan, ever since I was a little boy watching Mid-South Wrestling every Sunday. The antics of Junkyard Dog, the Grapplers, the Assassin, Ernie Ladd and Leroy Brown, the Freebirds, Skandor Akbar, the Great Kabuki, Eddie Gilbert & Sting (amd Missy Hyatt), Abdullah the Butcher...masks were common, finishing moves had standard names, and gimmick didn't dictate personality of the character. And the holds! From the cobra cluth to the full nelson, moves rarely "belonged" to a particular character...though there were exceptions (Ric Flair always had the figure-four leglock, the Von Erichs always had the claw, the Super Destroyer always had the cobra clutch...and the Grapplers always had the loaded boot).
When the WWF started up, they introduced gimmick wrestlers, and that was okay...until they started changing established wrestlers. Kerry von Erich became "the Texas tornado", JYD became a ladies' man, and Terry Taylor became "the Red Rooster", among other travesties.
When the Altanta-based NWA became WCW, they did the same thing...but they went even weirder with their "Dungeon of Doom".
Then ECW came along and turned extreme...and it was a 3-way race for a while...until WWF bought the other two. (Well, technically they took possession of ECW, since they were the primary creditor of ECW when it went bankrupt.)
So now it's just the WWF, now the WWE (and the reason for the name change is quite stupid, let me tell you). I still like wrestling, even with my old faves either retired or passed away. But the writing for the shows "RAW" and "Smackdown" really reeks.
Oh for the writing of old! Man, the WWF was never this bad when it was just exclusively on the USA network without monthly payperviews.
But I'm an old-school fan. Here to rant.

I use to be a big wrestling fan. But, haven' tbeen into it lately.
Though, I do have Rumble Roses for the PS2, and it's actually a decent wrestling game over all. Aside from the obvious gimmick of the game.
