I suppose I'll kick this off with a video I found that depicts one of Zoro's awesome techniques. It is called: "Nitouryuu Iai Rashomon." "Nitouryuu" means "Two swords style" and "Iai" means to draw your sword, cut your enemy, and resheath. The "Rashomon" part is actually a referance to an ancient gate built in 789 A.D. in Kyoto Japan during the Heian period. It had fallen into disrepair and had become a hideout for thieves, rogue samurai, and a dumping ground for abandoned babies. I believe that Zoro was using the dispairity of that gates history as a metaphor for the dispairity of slaughtering his enemy. Which intern, gives his cut a meaning, and not just a thoughtless swinging of a blade.

Another awesome Santouryuu technique Zoro learns is his flying cutting wave techniques: "San Jyuu Roku Pondou Hou" and "Hyaku Hachi Pondou Hou." Basically, they're techniques that utilize the air as a means of cutting your enemy from afar. Zoro first used this sort of utilization when he fought Hacchan, he used his Tatsumaki, or, Dragon Coil, technique to send him flying into the air with a sort of tornado effect. Since then, though, Zoro has become alot more enlightened, and can now cut the air to send a cutting wave at his opponent that deals alot of damage than a normal slash would. The english name to those techniques are: "36 Pound Cannon" and "108 Pound Cannon". The names of these techniques also carry other meanings, depending on how you translate them. The "Pondou Hou" could also mean "Earthly Desires", which is a buddist cultural refferance, meaning that one life has 36 desires or agonies. One sword represents one life, so you use two swords and it would be "72 Earthly Desires", and if you use three swords it would be "108 Earthly Desires."
