This is driving me nuts. Need name for a show from the 80's

I started thinking about a show I loved watching in the early 80's (I'm pretty sure it was between 81 and 83) but can't remember the name. It was a Japanese import of course and he's most of what I can remember:
Show was sci-fi (in space mostly)based and centered on a group of 5 (maybe less) characters. It wasn't a mech type show, each character had his/her own special weapon. The lead character had two batons or sticks that he could use seperatly or place them together to create a staff. Another guy had a hammer, or was it a ball and chain? These weren't just regular weapons, because it was sci-fi they had special energy to them.
I think each character wore a different colored uniform kinda of like the power ranger thing.
Anyway, that's all I remember now.
