i played the first god of war. its not bad if you like mindless and plotless hack and slash. think DMC but Ancient Greek with absolutley NO substance. i was not a fan.

God of war is an excellent game

You are both right. It is a lot of pointless hack and slash. But it is a amazing game. The story is awesome. There are several ways to kill bosses and normal enemies (ex:Hitting the right button combo in the right time to slide under a cyclopse's legs, up his back, and jump stabbing your blades into his head) But when you really think of it, the fighting is pretty good too. You have a few weapons to choose from. Leveling them up gives you more moves and such. I think that for the $20-$30 price tag it is an amazing game and I highly reccomend you get at least the first one to test it out.
