Absolute Anime

The following link is my first piece i have drawn and coloured in myself.

It is my own character called Kisa and is based on Naruto.

The talent section doesn't get a whole lotta lovin' unfortunately. Seems like the only ones that get a lot of attentions are those that are aimed at it.

I like your drawing very much. You didn't scrap on details, like some people do. It seems like I can derive two things from this piece: Shes from the Uchiha clan, and she's a traitor to the leaf village O_o

Okay I can take it but I halfly already knew that as my friend told me and I am currently drawing a new version of Kisa and is ready to be scanned when I get the chance.

A) I'm going to say everything that's wrong, and I'm going to be blunt about it, even if already covered by Sparxy. I will come off as rude.

The proportions are so far off, I can't begin to cover them. First thing: Compared to the body, the head is WAY too big. The average human body when measured by the size of the head is about five heads high (According to my art teacher.) Legs are not sticks. Unless, of course, your character is Janet Jackson and has no knees. Which, by the looks of it, she doesn't. The feet are too small and blocky. There's virtually no distinction between hips and stomach, and I see a REALLY bad distinction of a ribcage, but no boobs. Unless those lumps are supposed to be boobs. The arms are too short. Your hands touch about mid thigh. Again, no elbows. The hands are... undefinable. You need to work on the definition, proportion, and shape. As for the head... *clears throat* The eyes are horrible, too far apart, and the head is too wide to boot. The nose is too small, and too high on the head. The chin is really round, and unless the character is heavier set, you might want to point it a little bit. Again, Definition. The face takes up all teh room. Your character has no forehead, and no top of the head. The hair is blocky, uneven, and badly defined. Whatever shading you tried to do failed. Miserably. The coloring needs work too. And I hate the blank stare on your characters face. It doesn't even have meaning.

B) Those How to Draw Manga books aren't very good. Believe me. The best you can do is read manga and practice by copying what others draw or using their techniques to do your own characters and develope your own style. The How to books are usually by americans who know jack crap about what they're doing. Sure, they might look good, but they're still americans trying to pass it off as real manga.

C) If you can't get what I'm saying, ignore it, or get mad at it, you've got no one to blame but yourself. Even if you're new, you have to understand that not everyone will like what you do, and older, more expirienced artists will most likely look at you and start shooting off what's wrong. Honestly. If you can't take the bad criticism with the good, then you're pretty screwed.

Don't post first pieces.

Here's what I think.

It's good. Hands and proportions might not be perfect but if you want to learn how to do better with the proportion and stuff, do what I do and use Figurines (star war toys are good for this) and look at books and anything you can. After a while you get used to it

It needs work, but for a first piece, you're well on your way. Anyone else have a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design? Didn't think so.

I'm going for my Diploma in Graphics on my second year now. I only see 3 people however making "ignorant" posts.

Btw it's better than my first drawings I was doing. NO-ONE is good when they first start so very well done.

Graphics is a great field. Pays very well and there's always a need for it. I worked at a print center for a year, which was mediocre pay, but then whenever I moved into vinyl design, I started out at $24 bucks an hour, which isn't too shabby for starting pay. Web is where most of the money is, unfortunately I hate coding.
