Absolute Anime

I know that many of you have heard of the Final Fantasy movie coming out called Advent Children and my friend and I got into an arguement. He says that Advent Children is classified under anime because it has a video game background and is computer animated. I say that it isn't because it has no actual art pictures or manga blueprints for the creation. I know we can classify Final Fantasy as anime because it is a video game and all of the characters for the games were drawn, but not for the movie. Will someone please help me in this quarrel?!?!?

In the US, the term anime refers to Japanese cartoons. An anime doesn't have to be drawn by hand to be anime.

True. Anime literally means "Japanese Cartoon" . So when you hear people call it Japanese anime, they are saying Japanese japanese cartoon (Which barely makes sense)

That movie IS an anime movie. Because there's an anime about FF. Don't belive me? I'll post a link to the site where I found that information. The FF anime is rated M.. or was it X?

Update: My friend and I got so into our arguement, that we emailed a Square Enix (creators of Final Fantasy). When we got the email we were speechless at the result. The people said that it was computerized anime so therefore it is classified in the anime region...

I heard that it will be out sometime in August. I believe I heard the 13th but I am not completely sure...

LIARRRR!!!! I said it is b/c it uses disproportions of the body.. YOU said it wasn't b/c it was based on a video GAME and was computer animated!!!! sheeesh!!!! quit changin what u say...
Thank you kyle bloodheart for laying out the point that anime does NOT have to be hand-drawn. Well shuichi, ad another tally to the list that disagrees with your belief that anime has to be hand-drawn.

Square-Enix hasn't announced the release date yet... If all had went well, it would already be out in the US, but there was some sort of major error in the translation process (probably with the lips or something). Anyway, quite a few sites are covering this. They do believe that it will come out some time this year. Shuichi...where did you hear August 13th?

Square-Enix has announced officially that Advent Children will be SHIPPED by 2005....

actually tell him that the short term for is Animation sir that is anime

....if we are gonna start argueing over what anime actually is...i have already posted a topic about all that stuff in the Q & A forum... so there!!!

I saw this in the latest trailer of Advent Children at gamesarefun.com and gamespot. SquareSoft Japan showed in this trailer the date of the worldwide release at the end. After the FFVII:Advent Children logo, it said:

september 15: America
September 14: Japan

A convention isn't always foolproof. I pulled off that article from Square-Enix themselves, so no contest over when it is comin out. If my previous post had any attentions paid to it. The article DOES say that is coming out on Sep. 15 in America, and 14th in Japan. . gamesarefun.com, and gamespot both got this word from square enix. Square-Enix has released 2 trailers for Advent children in total. square-enix.com has all the info you need to know (and can know) on Advent Children.
