Could someone help a new guy choose an anime to watch please

Post by KenjiTamura »

Hello everyone, I’m new to this forum and I was wondering if anyone could help me choose an anime to watch. To help you help me I’m going to list anime with my comment on them to the right so that you can use that as evaluative criteria and then underneath the list I’m going to summarize what I like.

Mahou Sensei Negima (Great and hope it continues)
Shuffle! (Only the first 12 episodes were good and I hated the end)
Love Hina (Disliked it entirely)
DearS (Very good and I hope this too continues)
Tenchi Muyo GXP (Very good and the ending was good but open)
Trouble Chocolate (Okay with a bad ending)
Girls Bravo (Very good but I felt the ending lacked something)
Mahobaru (Very good but I wanted to see how the ending problem resolved itself)
Karin (Very good but I wish the guy had some kind of power)
Rizelmine (Very good but left me wanting more)
Amaenaideyo including Katsu (Wasn’t much of an end so I hope there is a season 3)
Inukami (I’m suspecting a bad ending and I’ve slowed down because I’m waiting on subs)
Ai Yori Aoshi (Good but too much unrequited love)
Yumeria (It’s good so far and I’m about to finish it soon)
Hanaukyo Maids (There wasn’t really an ending so not so good)
Magikano (Had a bad ending)
Tenjou Tenge (Too much of it was taken up by pointless flashbacks)
Steel Angel Kurumi (Season 1 was good but the season 2 should’ve been a continuation)
Koi Koi 7 (Good so far but the anime has been delayed)
Green Green (Had a bad ending so didn’t like it so much)
Chobits (Very good)

Genres I most like (Note I prefer the anime to be a mixture of some of these): Harem, Ecchi, Romance, Magic, Action, Superpower, and School Life.

So to start my summary I will describe the main character I prefer. I like the main character to usually be a guy that’s nice and respected, someone not only respected in the anime but you yourself can feel like you respect. Also I prefer the main character to have some kind of superpower/hidden power or is just superior in something that makes him more powerful than others (such as martial arts, swordsmanship, etc).

Next I will go ahead and describe animes I most like. Animes I most like are ones in worlds that seem fictional to us in some way where the main is a guy in school who has something that makes him unique or special, the guy living alone or with women would be a bonus but not necessary. I really like romances in the anime but not so that it is mushy or whatever. I absolutely love ecchi especially when it is used in comedy context like the main character caught in some kind of misunderstanding.

Finally I will describe how I like the anime such as visual etc. I like the anime to be newer or at least so it has better drawing/graphics to it. Also I like the anime to be in Japanese with English subtitles, I like this because for some reason English dubbing sounds crappy plus I like picking up Japanese words. When I watch anime I like it to last so I would prefer it if the anime series had like 15+ episodes in it. This is fairly important so please read this, I would prefer not to buy the anime and I would love it if it could be found at Youtube or at least I don’t have to resort to torrents.

Sorry my post was so long and please help by listing animes you think I’d like!

Thank you, I'll look into it, I was kind of hesitant because from the summary I thought there'd be a sad ending and I found it kind of short. I'll be sure to watch it though and thanks again for the quick response. Also everyone please keep posting suggestions as I go through animes fast lol.

Yes FLCL was fairly okay, I've seen it about 10 times because it's been running on adult swim on and off since about 2002. Right now im into season 3 of Ranma 1/2, it's kept my attention and is fairly comical but it hasn't really hit me as being as good as some other animes I've seen. Right now what I'm really excited to see is the remake of Mahou Sensei Negima which will be called Negima?!

i don't know if it's an anime yet, but there's a really good manga called ichigo 100%. it's about a high school kid who gets into a relationship with one of the hottest girls at school. he then meets other girls and 4-5 other REALLY hot girls end up liking him but he cant' choose and the characters just grow so much XP. i LOVED it

Yes Ichigo 100% has become an anime, but from what I told it went downhill and went of course from the manga and many are unhappy with its ending. Recently I watched an anime called Zero no Tsubaika, it was VERY good but short. 13 episodes, its about a guy who is summoned by a girl into a magical world where technology is primitive and those who can use magic rely on it. This guy is turned into the girls slave and is supposed to serve her for a lifetime, he has some kind of power that allows him to expertly wield any weapon just by holding it too. It's really new in fact i think it came out this year so there may be a season 2 or at least I hope so, I doubt there will be though. Anyway, the only animes that give me a feeling of content while watching are ones like these but they are few in number and even fewer in number of episodes each one has plus they seem to commonly have bad endings which I'm not fond of. Edit: Also I forgot to mention there are 2 other girls after him in this world and his master herself feels that way but she doesn't admit it.

To be exact 50 TV episode DVDs, 6 OVA DVDs and 6 movie DVDs.
Zengar and I are in agreement about this one.
I can't see the hate for Love Hina and like of Negima, they're made by the same guy. And Mahobaru? Did you mean Maburaho, Mahoromatic or Mahoraba? Confusing isn't it?

You could also try. For cheap bastards.

"Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni" is my obligatory recommendation. Even if it doesn't fit anywhere, I will recommend this. Always.

As for an on topic anime, look into Azumanga Daioh and Puni Puni Poemi.

One of the anime that I really loved is "Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien" and it has been licensed in the states and the first DVD is out. Its title in English is "Rumbling Hearts." It is a story about friendship, love, and deception. I am 100% sure that anyone who watches this anime will fall in love with it. It is a 14-episode anime and the art is so beautiful.

It is a love story between high school kids and it is really awesome. The characters will grow up as the anime is going on, so they will not be high school students the entire series. I really recommend this anime. Although I watched the anime before in Japanese with English subtitles, I bought the first DVD that has been released in the states in December.

Another anime I love is Hana Yori Dango aka "Boys Over Flowers." It is all about high school and the love triangle is awesome. I collected all the 12 DVDs and the total number of the episodes is 52. It is an amazing anime, as well. One of VIZ best releases.
