Well, Leiji Matsumoto was still around in the early 80s' accentuating his earlier works with other ones like Queen MIllennia.

It was also the beginning of the first big anime mania: Gundam. Even after the conclusion of the first series in the early 80's, people couldn't get enough, so you began seeing the Gundam universe expanding with 0080, 0083, Z, and so on and so forth.

What the 80's probably marks is the big shift from anime as just another means of entertainment to anime as art. Two works that I think mark that trend are Robot Carnival and Akira.

I like the 90's anime and the Latest anime ....but when was banner of the stars made oh great blue smiley..cos I realy like that show

"Crest of the stars" was produced in 1999 (that's what my DVD says), so I guess "Banner of the Stars" followed in 2000.
I've only seen "Crest" as of yet though... *sigh*
