Do you know why so many people think Eric Clapton is a GOD? I mean you MUST be wondering:How could an artist who nowadays mostly only gets played on Easy Listening and Adult Contemporary stations be hugely admired by so many different kinds of rock fans? This album is the reason why! It's been called one of the greatest albums ever made! I haven't heard all the songs on it though. I got the "Layla Sessions" box set at a Christmas Eve party.

Check out his stuff with Cream...Ginger Baker was one of the first people to play double bass drum in a rock band.

And, yeah..most of his stuff was ripped off from Little Richard, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Howling Wolf, Buddy Guy....
I still like him though.

I wouldn't say "ripped off". He's a blues player, he's always been a blues player, and he's always admitted all he wants to be is a blues player.

That's the main reason he's been in so many groups. He first hit the big time as one of the Yardbirds; he wrote the Yardbirds tune "Heart Full of Soul"--a rock song he wrote just to shut up the others, one he hoped would bomb. To his surprise, it was a big hit...and when the others wanted more rock tunes from him, he quit (to be replaced by Jeff Beck).
In fact, he's been in 15 different groups before deciding to head out on an official solo career permanently.
Don't forget his stuff with Blind Faith. He and Steve Winwood did some good songs together.
