Lost Anime Title

Hello,

I have been searching for a film for years. Ever since i saw it as a child. I have no idea what it's called and only have a few fragmented memories of it.

Basically it's set in space and for some reason a ship explodes, from it only a boy survives and he escapes in an escape pod. He lands on a strange and dangerous wild planet an is befriended by a gentle four legged creature. They go to a cave and the creature shows the boy whats good to eat, unfortunately in the cave some vines reach down and take the creature up into it's rafters where its killed and eaten.

i don't remember any more but if anyone remembers it and can give me a title or any more info i would be eternally grateful.
