Umm....I think the episode you're talking about must be of the 1st series...when Rei was competing against Bryan. They had a tough fight but Drigger and Rei won.
I am not sure whether its the same episode...but yeah, as you mentioned his hair went crazy...Yeah, his hair went crazy like hell in the episode I'm talking about...But he was still looking pretty as always <3 ^^

Its an awesome episode....fierce, but touching at the same time...One of my favorites <3
