Old Anime? Bird dies, is buried, pod grows & gives rice.

Hoo boy...maybe this is famous, maybe totally obscure, but I remember watching some Anime in the late 60's or very early '70's on TV. I believe it was a movie vs. series. All I really remember is that there were people that found a dead bird...they felt bad for it and buried it. Where they buried it, a plant grew that had pods. Rice (?) came out of the pods. The evil people saw that, and so they *killed* a bird and buried it...their pod just produce some black ink stuff...

Ok, laugh if you will, but it's something I've wondered about for years. I couldn't even guarantee that it was Anime..but I remember it that way
